The brief asked for an elegant family home, that pays homage to the history of the humble New Zealand bach. Materials and details were chosen carefully to reflect this direction. The living areas of the house were elevated one story to maximise the views, and arranged around 2 court areas to provide exterior areas sheltered from the wind and maximising the outlook from all areas. The kitchen was integral to the functioning of the living space and provides a pivot point for the family and social use of the three key living areas: lounge, dining, outdoor room.

The architect chose Corian and Fenix because they perfectly reflected our desire for sophisticated, yet utilitarian materiality. The Fenix colour Nero Ingo, with its delicious matt finish reminded us of the expanse of black West Coast sand directly in from of the living spaces.
